Review: Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation VS Revlon ColorstayFoundation.

So.

First review post.

You know what I'm going to say.....

WOOOHOOOOO!!!!!

#lulz

Today's post is going to be about two foundations that I have been using for the past couple of months. This post will be lengthier than my previous posts.

So brace yourselves. #lol

First things first, let me tell you about the condition of my skin:

  • It is oily.
  • Especially on my nose and chin area.
  • It gets slightly oilier on the nose and chin area in the afternoon (2-3pm).
  • Even oilier (irregardless if I blot the excess oil or not) in the evening (7-8pm).
  • Worse during the night (10-11pm).
*I'm usually done putting on my makeup around 11am-12pm.
*I also touched up my face throughout the day using Missha's The Style Sebum Cut Loose Powder.
*The pictures here including the foundations are only adjusted through brightness.

LET THE BATTLE BEGIN!!!

On the left we have.......

Revlon Colorstay Makeup.

Marketed as:
  • Comfortable lightweight formula that won’t cake, fade, or rub off.
  • For combination or oily skin to control oil absorption and shine.
  • Lasts up to 24 hours
  • Buildable to full coverage

First Impressions/How I apply it:
  • It is light, and buildable to full coverage, as marketed
  • They didn't carry a variety of shades (mine fall in between Warm Golden and Early Tan).
  • Since it has the tendency to oxidise, I got the Warm Golden instead.
  • The undertone is pink-based. Not suitable for warm-undertone skin peeps. So I used Missha's Perfect Cover BB cream (#27) first then the foundation on top.
  • They reformulated the product; the "paint" smell wasn't as strong now as it was before.
  • It's affordable (SGD30 for 30ml bottle).
  • Gets to full coverage by the 3rd to 4th application.
  • However, it is more dilute and less pigmented. Therefore, applying it with a foundation brush will give it streaky marks, which you will need to blend later; waste of time to be honest. So I used a blending sponge instead.

Results:

Afternoon/Lunch time: 2 to 3pm
  • Most of my skin stayed matte.
  • Only the sides of my nose got oily (as indicated by the cute and helpful emoji fingers. Lol.)
  • This picture was taken after I blot my face with tissue paper (Like I normally do).

Evening/Dinner Time: 7 to 8pm
  • Hair got messy. For whatever reason. Lol. #Irrelevant
  • Skin got slightly oilier.
  • Laugh lines got prominent.
  • Foundation has slightly oxidised.
  • This picture was taken before I blot my face.

Night time: 10-11pm
  • My oily alter-ego has finally arrived. #lol
  • The nose and chin area was a lot oilier than my cheek area (as expected).
  • Laugh lines still prominent.
  • Foundation has significantly oxidised.
  • This picture was also taken before I blot my face.

Pros:
  • Cheap and affordable.
  • Value for money.
  • The smell is a lot more tone down.
  • Buildable to full coverage, as marketed.

Cons:
  • It has a pink-undertone (not suitable for me; I have a warm-undertone).
  • Only 5 shades available in Singapore; not a lot of variety.
  • When I blot my face, a part of the foundation also comes off with it. Therefore, touching up is a bit more of a hassle.
  • It visibly oxidises throughout the day.

Other comments:

Imma be honest here, it is hard to come by a drugstore product especially catered to oily/combination skin and actually perform. It does manage to control most of my oily face (my other areas do get oily too, just not a lot more than my nose and chin area) and for what it's worth, it did last for a whole day, despite oxidising.

Will I repurchase it?/Why or Why not?

Only when I'm broke. And still wants to look pretty fabulous. Lol.

No, really. It's a bit of a hassle to counter-act the pink from the foundation with the BB cream. Not only does it noticeably oxidise, my face looks really oily at the end of the day (or at the end of my shift, rather).

And now,

on the right we have.....

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup

Marketed as:
  • Won't change colour, smudge or come off on clothes. Feels lightweight and comfortable.
  • Long-wearing makeup stays fresh and looks natural through heat, humidity, nonstop activity.
  • Long-wear: 15 hours.
  • Medium coverage.

First Impressions/How I apply it:
  • OH MY GOD. THIS IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF.
  • It covers really well and it is buildable to full coverage (can also act as concealer).
  • My skin stayed matte throughout the whole day (except for my nose and chin area, of course).
  • They have a variety of shades.
  • It barely oxidises.
  • It has a yellow-undertone. THANK GOD.
  • Expensive (SGD58 for a 1.0oz/29.57ml bottle).
  • Gets to full coverage by the 2nd to 3rd application.
  • It is more dilute than expected (but not as dilute as Revlon).
  • I applied it and blended it with a foundation brush (as shown by the ever so helpful staff). I also applied it with a blending sponge. Either way, both methods work well.

Results:

Note: I applied highlight on my forehead, cheekbones and the bridge of my nose. So what may seem "oily" is actually not. Point is, let the helpful emoji fingers help you. #lol

Afternoon/Lunch-Time (2 to 3pm)
  • Oily on the nostril and chin.
  • Foundation got rubbed off on the chin area because uh, I sub-consciously rubbed it off myself. Oops. Sorry. My bad.
  • Blotted my nose area. A bit of the foundation came off as well.

Evening/Dinner Time:
  • Again, oily on the nose area and chin.
  • Laugh line visible.
  • Blotted my nose area. A part of the foundation noticeably came off as well.

Night time: 10-11pm
  • Nose and chin area visibly oily.
  • I actually liked it. It gave me the "dewy" look; not the "my face got slathered in a ton of oil" look. #lol
  • Laugh line barely visible (In fact I missed it the first time I edited the picture). #TrueStory
  • Foundation slightly oxidised.

Pros:
  • Has a variety of shades.
  • Barely oxidises.
  • Better at controlling my excess oil.
  • Excellent coverage.
  • Buildable (medium to full coverage).
  • Yellow-based (suitable for warm-toned peeps.
Cons:
  • Expensive.
  • When I blot my face, a part of the foundation also comes off with it. Therefore, touching up is a bit more of a hassle.

Other comments:

This thing is too good to be true. It is magic, it is heaven sent. IT IS AMAZING. Most of my skin stayed matte. Even if my nose and chin got oily, it did not get MAJORLY oily. In other words, my oily alter-ego almost came through, but it didn't. #lol

Plus, it barely even oxidises (notice how my skin still looked bright at the end of the day??).

And, might I add it photographs a lot more beautifully despite the fact that most of the base products (concealers, powders, brightener I used were the same)???

Will I repurchase it?/Why or Why not?

Hella yesss. Having matte, velvety skin and looking flawless is an addiction. I went from "Imma just try a bottle of this. Because this is hella expensive." To, "HELL YES IMMA BUY THIS AGAIN. THIS IS MAGICCC!!!" #TrueStory

AND THE WINNER IS........................

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You win a free trip to Timbaktu!!!!

*Return flight ticket not inclusive.

#lol

In conclusion,

The Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup will be my foundation staple. Considering it is pricey, I'm going to wear it on days when I need my makeup to last me a whole day. On other days, I'll stick to my usual BB Cream instead.

Till then.

Ida
