The Basics: How to Achieve a Well-Balanced Makeup Look.

Hi.

So I'm not sure if this might help, but I'm posting it anyways for all those who are starting out on makeup.

This post will consist of a couple of tips to achieve that "well-balanced" makeup look I learnt throughout the years when I started wearing makeup (I know, this makes me sound old. And I probably am. #lol)

Neutral makeup:

Dramatic makeup:

Makeup tip 1:

Whenever I do a neutral eye makeup, I like to pair it with natural and lightly drawn eyebrows. I find that a heavily drawn and filled in eyebrows makes the brows stand out more; which is not I want. I want it to match with my eye makeup.

In contrast, a dramatic eye makeup (eg; smokey eye) will be paired with a more heavily-drawn and filled in eyebrows

To achieve the natural eyebrow:

(1) Using an eyebrow pencil of your choice (I used my usual Missha Smudge-Proof Eyebrow Pencil), gently feather in your eyebrows.

(2) Using a clean mascara brush, brush through the eyebrows. This will soften the look and blend any harsh lines..

To achieve the dramatic eyebrow:

(1) Using an eyebrow pencil of your choice, feather in your eyebrows.

(2) Keep doing so until you are satisfied with the intensity.

(3) Using a clean mascara brush, brush through the eyebrows. This will soften the look and blend any harsh lines.

(4) If you think it's too dark, use a clean cotton bud to "rub off" the excess. Keep doing so until you are satisfied with the intensity.

Makeup tip 2:

In reference to the tip above, if I have a neutral lip on, I prefer to gently tap on and then blend my blush. This is to give it a light, natural look that matches with the neutral coloured lip.

Also, if I have a bolder lip, I use the same application technique; only I layer it on until I'm satisfied with the intensity.

The reason why I don't want to start with a lot of product and then sweep it across the cheeks is because once you accidentally put on too much blush, it's hard to "correct" it. Sure, you can rub the excess off with tissue paper or blend it with powder. But whenever I do so, it doesn't seem to remove the excess as much as I wanted it to.

Makeup tip 3:

I also prefer it if the colour of my lips and the colour of my blush matches

This is how I usually match it:

  • Lipsticks with a golden/brown/orange undertone Peach blush/Coral blush
  • Lipsticks with red/pink undertone Pink blush/Coral blush

In conclusion,

Eye:

  • Neutral eye makeup + Natural eyebrows
  • Bold eye makeup + Dramatic eyebrows

Lips and Cheeks:

  • Neutral lip + Light blush
  • Bold lip + Intense blush

You can also pair the

  • Bold eye makeup + Dramatic eyebrows
with

  • Neutral lip + Light blush.
It doesn't have to stay within the neutral or dramatic family, you know what I mean?

I hope this helps.

Till then.
